Brashers Hornet Massacre Leads Off Speedy Week at Meridian Speedwayadmin
Meridian Speedway will be buzzing Wednesday, August 27, as the Brashers Hornet Massacre marks the final midweek race of the season. Running alongside the Tates Rents Hornets will be the Project Filter Pro-4s, Coors Super Stocks, and Thunderdogs. The return of this fan favorite event marks the first event of the racing-packed Labor Day week. Don’t miss any of the action Wednesday.
The Tates Rents Hornet division has enjoyed close competition all season long both on the racetrack and in the point standings. Recently Rob Powers wrestled the top spot from Kodi Newberry, but with a string of consistent runs Newberry has kept within a manageable 38 points of Powers. Will Newberry be able to race his way to the point on a school night?
Joe Barton used his sweep of the Project Filter Twin 25’s to build a commanding lead in the standings over second place Kenny Chandler, who has now fallen into the clutches of Larry Hull III. Just fourteen markers separate Chandler and Hull III, and with Wednesday’s action being one of the division’s two remaining races the time to go is now.
The final Coors Super Stocks only event of the season also takes the green flag Wednesday to find the answer to a season-long question: can anyone beat Rob Powers? While Lynn Sharp has shown speed at points during the season Powers has been the dominant force of late, claiming a string of main event trophies. In the Thunderdog ranks the question is much the same as Bulldacious has run free-range through the division collecting victory after victory while fellow competitors Optimus Prime and The Dutchess have gained valuable experience in their maiden season in this rough and tumble division.
Following Wednesday’s racing action Meridian Speedway also host a Labor Day weekend double-header. Saturday night is Tates Rents Fan Night, complete with racing from the Pepsi Sprintcars and Super 6s, Meridian Speedway and Budweiser Modifieds, TEAM Mazda Subaru Mini Stocks and the Outlaw Compacts, Tates Rents Hornets, and a Clarity Credit Union Penny Gold Rush. Sunday sees the Oldies Cruise and Drag Night take it slow and low around the quarter mile before the NAPA Auto Parts Big 5 Latemodels roar to life for their final race of the 2014 season. Also scheduled Sunday are the Domino’s Pizza Legends, the conclusion of the TEAM Mazda Subaru Mini Stock and Outlaw Compact feud, and the Tile Outlet Bike Races for Kids.
Tickets for each night of this speedy week are just $10.25. Gates open at 4 p.m. each evening, with racing slated to start at 6:30 p.m. Visit www.meridianspeedway.com for more information or for advance tickets.
