Championship Drive: Caity Miller

Championship Drive: Caity Miller

Even before the green flag fell on 2019, Caity Miller had become a force to be reckoned with in the Domino’s Legends ranks.  A hard charger in a 1934 Ford Coupe, Boise, Idaho’s Miller made herself, and her number 35, a fixture on the Pepsi-Cola scoreboard throughout the 2018 campaign.  This momentum would be the catalyst Miller would use to turn her ninth season of Legends competition into her first championship.

Reading the box score will tell you that Miller’s roll continued as she dominated the division’s first two main events.  But these wins were anything but easy as Miller went wheel-to-wheel with three-time Domino’s Legend champion Casey Tillman, narrowly guiding her Armor Performance Coating, Riverside Collision, Cascade Rain Gutter, PitStopUSA.com, Custom Fab, YMC, Schaefer Oil machine to the Caleb’s Chop Shop Winner’s Circle each time.  Once Miller had Tillman squarely in her rearview mirror, she faced another familiar foe in Chance Davis.

The tone for this rivalry was set in race three, where race-long contact finally sent both drivers to the turn four concrete on the last lap.  While mechanical issues and illness plagued Miller’s early summer, the ever-consistent Brok Kidd closed, hoping to make an earnest push for the top spot as June drew to a close.

With her back to the wall Miller entered the INEX Regional Qualifying race on July 27 with a vengeance.  After an instant classic battle with New Mexico’s Robert Gayton, Miller came home second, outscoring the race winner by 5 markers and more than doubling Kidd’s total on the night.  Through the rest of the year Miller would not be outscored by anyone, leaving no doubt that her celebratory donuts on the front stretch were well-earned.
