Championship Drive: Cody Castriconeadmin
After speeding his way to a Junior Stinger championship in 2018, young Cody Castricone entered 2019 looking to do something that only five drivers at the quarter-mile had done before—win a title in one class, then win another championship the following year in a different class. At the controls of a bad fast lime green on black number 11 Dodge Neon, Castricone rolled onto the quarter-mile with his sights set on doing just that.
Castricone started the season in dominating fashion, outscoring his competition by 17 points his first week out to take an early standings lead. But reigning High School Tuner champion James Strikwerda battled back, rattling off five straight victories through the division’s summer stretch to pull within a single point of Castricone as the pair entered the season’s final two races.
The fight for the lead on October 5 was intense as Castricone searched high and low for a way around Strikwerda. After contact at the race’s halfway point sidelined the defending champion, Castricone piloted his Fast Glass, Butterflies and Dragonflies, Linder Learning Academy racer to the checkers. With a tenuous point lead Castricone methodically negotiated the season-ending Trunk or Treat Championship Saturday en route to his second-straight championship season.
