Championship Drive: Delaney Grace

Sitting in the grandstands at Eve of Destruction 9, a young Delaney Grace made a decision.  As sprint cars lapped the quarter-mile she turned to her mom and said, “I want to do that.”  And so Grace, with help from her stepdad, Meridian Speedway competitor Danny Martin, climbed into her first race car.

Grace’s 2019 season got off to an inauspicious start as the would-be Junior Stinger champion pounded the wall in pre-season testing.  Beside losing her primary COREtec Waterproof Flooring, CP Express Racing Vinyl and Design, Splash and Dash Groomerie and Boutique, Tan Republic, Western Construction, Inc, AAA Bob’s Lock and Key, NRG Flooring car to the crash, Grace’s confidence was also shaken.  But the Star Middle School student wouldn’t be deterred.  Embracing the motto “live big,” a sentiment passed down from her grandfather, Grace got back on track, powering through to a mid-pack finish in the division’s first race.

With a successful race weekend behind her number 29 machine Grace sped into the next, and took home the checkers in one of the night’s two Project Filter Twin 25’s.  Catapulted into the title hunt Grace focused on consistency, and through the rest of the season would outscore her closest competitor Dylan Wardle 446-374 to secure her first division championship.
