Championship Drive: Kenny Chandler

Championship Drive: Kenny Chandler

The classic battle of youth versus experience was on full display in the Project Filter Pro-4s as Kenny Chandler, a forty-year veteran of the division went toe-to-toe with upstart Jordan Harris in his second full Project Filter Pro-4 campaign.

Chandler debuted a brand-new Project Filter, Fairly Reliable Bob’s, Les Schwab Tire Centers, Mulder’s Auto Machine, Jim’s Drivetrain, Sound Depot, McDowell’s Auto Specialty, KCR car for the 2019 season.  While his vibrant yellow number 33 was fast, mechanical gremlins plagued Chandler throughout opening night.

At the controls of Chandler’s championship-winning car from last year, Harris sped to a runner up finish and the early points lead.  Harris doubled-down on his championship aspirations, wheeling his number 22 Kim’s Kars, KCR, H&H Auto, Challenger Auto, Mulder’s Auto Machine, HFR, Cheaper Tires machine to victory in the division’s second and third features.

Then Chandler sprang to life, rattling off four straight dominating performances through May and June.  But Harris battled back to claim two of the division’s final six race nights.  Though this late-season push kept Harris within striking distance of the title, Chandler proved too strong and with a season-ending victory Chandler took the championship, his tenth in the division, by 25 points.
