Matuska Outlasts Youngblood for 125 Win

Hornets swarmed Meridian Speedway on Saturday, July 20, as the quarter-mile asphalt oval hosted the Neil Alan Race for Hunger 125 presented by Idaho Central Credit Union. Along with the Idaho Asphalt Services Hornets, the NASCAR Modifieds, Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stocks, Project Filter Pro-4s, and Trammel Construction Stingers raced their way to the night’s Challenger Auto Sales trophies.

Alex Duda made the most of his outside front row starting spot in the NASCAR Modifieds’ second feature race. As soon as the green flag waved Duda moved his HD Concrete, Idaho Dairy Pros machine to the point with Caity Miller and first feature winner Josh Jackson in tow.

Once up front Duda pulled away from the pack and cruised to victory while Miller outdueled Jackson to finish in the second spot. Brendon Fries finished fourth with Kyle Latham fifth.

Twenty-eight Idaho Asphalt Services Hornets crowded the quarter-mile at the start of Saturday’s Neil Alan Race for Hunger 125. On the break Chuck Youngblood and Jeff Matuska dashed to the front of the pack intent to settle the 125-lap race amongst themselves.

Youngblood dominated the race’ first two thirds, but heavy lapped traffic allowed Matuska to work his way past Youngblood and into the lead late. As Matuska eased into the distance Youngblood needed a caution flag to bunch and rerack the field. But no yellow flag waved and Matuska outpaced Youngblood to the Caleb’s Chop Shop Victory Stripe.

The Project Filter Pro-4 division saw another classic Nike Heinzel-Jordan Harris duel for victory. After fifteen laps of side-by-side running Heinzel pulled his Metro State Automation LLC, Kim’s Kars machine into the pit area which left Harris’ Kim’s Kars, H&H Auto Sales racer in control of the race until a late caution flag waved and brought Jordan’s sister Jessika Harris into the lead battle.

On the restart Jessika Harris committed to the inside line and slowly but surely reeled her brother in. As the white flag waved Jessika dove hard into turn one to take the lead and, half a track later, her first feature victory.

Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stock racer Morgan Trammel strapped an outlaw kart wing to his Trammel Construction, Western Siding machine and flew to another feature race win. Travis Pavlacky brought his pickup home second with Cody Garrett third.

Siblings Michael and Alannah Trammel led the Trammel Construction Stinger field to green Saturday but were quickly dispatched by division dominators Ryat Gorringe and Makayla Trafford. Try as Trafford might Gorringe’s Fast Lane Indoor Kart Racing car was too strong, and he scored his second win of the year.

Chaos and carnage take over this Saturday, July 27, as Meridian Speedway hosts Eve of Destruction 16. Before the World Famous Boat Race of Destruction, The Beast Hornet Meltdown, The Gauntlet, and Fireworks, the Zamp NASCAR Latemodels, Pepsi Sprintcars, Idaho CDL Training Street Stocks, Idaho Asphalt Services Hornets, Firehouse Pub and Grill Bombers, and an Apex Idaho Drift Competition go wheel-to-wheel for the night’s Idaho CDL Training trophies. For more information and to purchase advance tickets to Saturday’s beating and banging attractions log on to www.meridianspeedway.com. We’ll see you under the big, yellow water tower this Saturday, July 27, for Eve of Destruction 16 at your NASCAR Home Track, Meridian Speedway.
