Fire, Fury Invade Meridian Speedway this Weekend
The Speed Tour Sprint Cars thunder into Meridian Speedway this Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, for the 36th running of the Diamond Cup presented by Neil Alan Fine Jewelry. The best in the West gather for a two-day winged sprint car championship alongside the Speed Tour Supermodifieds who run the Naylor Classic on Friday night and the JP Memorial on Saturday. The Speedway Midgets also take the green flag both nights, with the Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stocks and Idaho Asphalt Services Hornets rounding out Friday’s Stinker Family Pass Night slate and Saturday’s Ninja Kitty Fireworks Finale featuring the Firehouse Pub and Grill Thunderdogs, the Apex Idaho Drifters and fireworks.
There may be no hungrier Speed Tour Sprint Car pilots entering Diamond Cup presented by Neil Alan Fine Jewelry weekend than standings leaders Bryan Warf and Colton Nelson. Warf has scored the Diamond Cup championship three times, the most recent in 2017 where he won both the Speed Tour Sprint Car and Supermodified cups. This weekend Warf looks to join Kenny Hamilton, Rick Veenstra, and Matt Hein in the three-time Diamond Cup champions club.
Meanwhile, Nelson is still in search of his first Diamond Cup presented by Neil Alan Fine Jewelry title. Nelson has endured just about every iteration of bad luck to be had in previous years’ runnings, but has his car dialed in and his sights locked on taking home this year’s diamond ring trophy.
The Speed Tour Supermodifieds roar to life in honor of both the Naylor and Pasquale families this weekend. Friday’s Stinker Family Pass Night features the Naylor Classic, a race that celebrates open-wheel racing standouts Bob and Tom as well as family patriarch Glenn. Matt Elliott returns to the Richard Hatch number 56 to defend last year’s Naylor Classic victory.
Saturday’s Ninja Kitty Fireworks Finale sees the supermodifieds run the JP Memorial in memory of supermodified fixture Joseph Pasquale. Bennett, Colorado’s Rich Castor returns to the Concrete Jungle with his eyes set on scoring his second straight JP Memorial trophy.
Casey Tillman leads the Speedway Midgets to green this Friday and Saturday. Tillman, along with his own bid to reach the three-time Diamond Cup winner’s club, looks to remain undefeated in 2025 midget competition. But Tillman will have his hands full of steering wheel and mirrors full of Brady Ransom and Casey Heesch who trail Tillman by just seventeen and nineteen points respectively.
The new look Boise Bath and Kitchen Mini Stocks return to action Friday for a Stinker Family Pass Night showdown. After the division’s most recent meeting NASCAR Officials implemented a rule change to remove aerodynamic devices and bring these stock cars back to looking more like their original showroom silhouettes. Will this change jumble up the division standings, or will current points leaders Morgan Trammel and Travis Pavlacky maintain their superior speed?
With a had fought Race for Hunger 125 in the books, the Idaho Asphalt Services Hornets return to the quarter-mile Friday night. Division point leader Ron Clausen withstood a disastrous fifteenth place finish to remain 153 points ahead of second place point runner Alannah Trammel. Watch for Clausen to race his way back to the front Friday as he eyes the night’s Maxwell Plumbing trophy.
The Firehouse Pub and Grill Thunderdogs bring their zany brand of anything goes racing to Saturday’s Ninja Kitty Fireworks Diamond Cup Finale. Mad Maxx and Bobby Hill stand just one point apart atop the Thunderdog heap with their attention focused on Saturday’s Trammel Construction hardware.
The Apex Idaho Drifters complete Saturday’s slate of short track thrills and spills.
