Rain washes out Meridian’s Memorial Day races

by Jon Brown, MERIDIAN, Idaho – Mother Nature won Monday night at ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway.rain

All main events were postponed by rain, and speedway officials will reschedule memorial races for the NAPA Late Models (Bill Crow 50), the Pepsi Sprintcars (LeeRoy Nelson 40) and Coors Super Stocks (Dee Forrey/Don VanSchoiack 50).

The Jr. Stingers also had their main event postponed.

Hold on to your ticket stubs and unused tickets dated May 27th, rain check details to be release at meridianspeedway.com later today.

Qualifying for Jr. Stingers was completed as was the division’s first heat race.

Hometown driver Stafford Smith won the six-lap heat race, and reigning series champion Riley Rogers, also of Meridian, was the fastest qualifier at 18.508 seconds on the paved quarter-mile oval.

Raincheck tickets from Monday night will be honored Wednesday or Friday as the racing continues at the speedway. Monday’s rainchecks also will be honored for June 8’s EMS/Police/Fire/Correction Officer Night.

The ASA-sanctioned Canadian-American Western Winged Sprintcars Series is the featured attraction on Wednesday and Friday for the conclusion of the second annual Northwest Sprintcar Asphalt Speedweek wraps up.

The Bob and Tom Naylor Memorial Classic pushes off on Wednesday with other memorial races planned, including the Sean Miller 40 for the ASA Modifieds and B Modifieds and the Austin Christopherson/Eldon Cahill 50 for the Domino’s Pizza Legends. The Project Filter Pro-4s also will race.

Speedweek concludes Friday and Saturday with the BOB 96.1 FM Diamond Cup XXV.

Ticket prices vary depending on the night, but children 6 and younger get in free each night.

Wednesday — $12 for adults, $9.50 for military with ID and senior citizens, $8 for children ages 7-11.

Friday — $15 for adults with a $2.50 discount for military personnel and senior citizens and $4 off for children 7-11.

Saturday — $18 for adults, $15.50 for military and seniors and $14 for children 7-11.

Gates open at 4 p.m. each night with racing at 6:30 p.m.
