Scheduling is hot and heavy at Meridian Speedway
This off season at Meridian Speedway generally means lots of calls and juggling to secure dates and events for summer fun. This winter is no exception as lot of conversations and deals are being made. After returning from the WARPA (Western Auto Racing Promoters Assn.) meeting a few weeks ago the baseline of the 2016 events schedule is really starting to take shape.
The Meridian Speedway Marque events like Diamond Cup and Eve of Destruction are set to follow on the traditional weekends. Diamond Cup is held the Friday & Saturday night after Memorial Weekend and the Indy 500. This year Diamond Cup, dates fall on June 3rd and 4th. Diamond Cup sponsors like Stinker Stores and BOB FM have been involved for many years and we expect them to extend their contracts into 2016.
Eve of Destrucion 8 will be held towards the first part of August as it usually is. August 6th will see the return of World Famous Boat Racing and Fireworks.
Staple events like the Firecracker 50, Treasure Valley 125, Legend Regional, Bill Crow 50, Naylor Memorial Classic, Jeff Russell Road 2 Recovery, Tom Elliott Sportsman Classic, Dairy Days, Military Appreciation and TATES Rents Fan Appreciation Night are all planned to make a return.
A brand new event in 2015, Davey Hamilton’s King of the Wing Sprintcars, is scheduled for an encore in 2016. The Pink Lady Classic, Thursday nights stop for Hamiltons National Sprintcar Series, is set for July 21. The tour will head to the state of Washington as it did last year for the Saturday and Sunday events. Saturday will be at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, while the Sunday stop will end the Northwest swing at Wenachee Valley Super Oval, also in Washington.
The other first time event from 2015 that looks to make a return is the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race know as the NAPA Auto Parts Idaho 208. NASCAR is currently working with the tracks to finalize the dates and contracts. Information on the Meridian date will be soon released.
Regional Touring divisions are all welcomed back as they are an integral part of the variety of events offered each Saturday night at the Meridian Speedway. The dates are still being moved around but we look forward to seeing them all. NSRA Winged Sprintcars, Pro Truck Series, Intermountain Outlaw Modifieds, ISRL Super Sixes, Project Filter Tri Track Challenge, West Coast Vintage & HPD Midgets.
Many of the local divisions saw some growth in 2015. We’d like to continue the trend and have some great things planned for each of them this coming year.
