Showstoppers on Display for Ultra Touch Cruze and Drag Night

Meridian Speedway slows it down a bit this Saturday, August 18, for Ultra Touch Car Wash Hot August Cruze and Drag Night. Alongside the Coors Super Stocks, Teleperformance Claimer Stocks, Big Daddy’s Barbecue Hornets, Junior Stingers and Bombers, the region’s hottest rods, coolest cruisers, and sickest sleds gather for a rolling car show unlike any other.
After a rocky start to 2018, defending Coors Super Stock champion Melissa Arte has dispatched all comers save standings runner up Josh Jackson. With just two race nights left, look for Jackson to pilot his machine to the limit in chase of the SCI Insurance main event trophy.
Teleperformance Claimer Stock action has been intense since the division’s first green flag back in April, and with four races to go Josh Fanopoulos holds a 45 point advantage over rookie runner Taylor Occhipinti. As the season winds down watch for the intensity to ratchet up as these full-bodied American stock cars beat and bang for the top spot.
James Pahl leads the Big Daddy’s Barbecue Hornets into Ultra Touch Car Wash Cruze and Drag Night by virtue of his 500 point monster truck jump in June. But Neil Wassmuth lurks in the runner up spot waiting for his chance to score some bonus points and move to the head of the division.
Though he’s doubled his closest competition’s win total, Junior Stinger competitor Rusty Houpt holds a mere three point advantage over Cody Castricone as the pair speed into Saturday night’s meeting. Which of these youngsters will separate themselves from the competition Saturday?
Though short on build time, the Bomber division has provided some of the most thrilling action at the quarter-mile this season. Miss consistency Mirinda Miles leads minivan man James Sheets and hard-hitting Doug McGarva into Saturday night’s action where anything goes.
The true centerpiece of Ultra Touch Car Wash Hot August Cruze and Drag Night is the collection of classic cars on display both in the pits and on track. Last year’s cruise featured everything from a replica of Elvis Pressley’s pink Cadillac to a bank robbing bandit astride a Model T. Don’t miss the cars and characters that turn up this Saturday, and get ready to cheer for your favorite for the Fan’s Choice award.
General admission to Saturday’s full night of action is just $11.50 for adults, $9 for seniors and military members, $6.50 for kids 7-11, and as always kids 6 and under get into the concrete jungle free of charge. Gates open at 4:45 p.m. with qualifications at 5:30 p.m. and the night’s first green flag at 6:45 p.m. Skip the line at the gate and purchase your advance tickets online at www.meridianspeedway.com and keep up with all the latest news and notes by texting ‘meridianspeed’ to 84483.
