Something for Everyone on Tap Saturdayadmin
Meridian Speedway has something for everyone this Saturday on River Adventures Raft Race Night. Race fans will be treated to the Grand American Modifieds, Budweiser Modifieds, Domino’s Legends, Claimer Stocks, and Tates Rents Hornets. Young race fans are invited to take part in the first Clarity Credit Union Penny Gold Rush 4 Kids of the 2015 season. The young at heart will enjoy the wild and wacky debut of the bumper bashing Thunder Dogs, and everyone is invited to play along with the second installment of Double Race-O with purchase of a lucky program.
The battles within both Grand American and Budweiser Modified divisions have been rough and tumble as veterans and rookies duel for division supremacy. With the Grand American Modified pack still growing as more and more racers leave the garage and roll onto the quarter-mile. Veteran Grand American Modified pilot Dennis Wurtz II worked through a flurry of bumps and crashes to claim victory in the 2015 season opening race. Both rookie racer Scott Gilligan and long-time Meridian Speedway racer Josh Jackson have found their way to the top of the Pepsi-Cola scoreboard thus far this season. Will veteran or rookie prevail as these two competitive divisions square off Saturday.
The Domino’s Legends concrete jungle debut was spoiled by Las Vegas, Nevada native Peyton Saxton rolled into Meridian Speedway and ran away with the main event. Now a hungry pack of racers, among them Treasure Valley 125 winner Trevor Cristiani and weekly contender Zach Blume, look to race their way into Arctic Circle Victory Lane.
The Claimer Stock division has produced the hardest, door-to-door racing of the young 2015 season. Casey Hart has proved his big, orange pickup truck a formidable foe as he picked up the first Claimer Stock victory. Only Josh Hale has bested Hart thus far, but watch for Tim Shelton and Johnny Ford to challenge the early-season dominators as they gain experience and speed.
Any time the Tates Rents Hornets pack the speedway fans are assured plenty of paint swapping and close racing. As the second full-field fight takes the green flag Saturday who will hack their way through the raging pack.
Finally the Thunder Dogs receive their invitation to duke it out on the quarter-mile. Bulldacious has been the Thunder Dog standard setter of late, winning the 2014 Thunder Dog championship by a wide margin. But in a class where the lead is the last place drivers want to be and points are awarded for everything from spinning opponents to laying down the best burnout there can be no true favorite heading into this new season.
With all this racing action it’s easy to miss out on the special events being held Saturday, including the Clarity Credit Union Penny Gold Rush 4 Kids and the second appearance of double Race-O. Tickets for the River Adventures Raft Race Night are just $10.25 for adults, $7.75 for military members and senior citizens, and as always kids 6 and under get in free.
