Whelen Night is NASCAR Night at Meridian Speedway

Meridian Speedway drops the green flag on the second half of its 65th season Saturday, July 16, with Whelen Night at the Races presented by the College of Western Idaho Professional Truck Driving program.  The top four NASCAR-sanctioned divisions, including NASCAR Whelen All-American Modifieds, Pepsi Crate Cars, College of Western Idaho Super Street Stocks, and Kendall Ford of Meridian Mini Stocks join the College of Western Idaho High School Tuners as they take the quarter-mile asphalt oval, eager to start the stretch run off right.

Larry Hull III asserted his will in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modified division’s last meeting, leading one main event until a part failure put him in the turn one concrete, then driving his rebuilt racer to the second main event victory. Hull III will need every bit of the momentum gained if he is to make a late-season run at point leaders Colton Nelson, Dylan Caldwell, and Rus Ward.

Justin Segura has come into his own in the Pepsi Crate Car ranks, and has a growing collection of main event hardware to prove it. Can Segura maintain his torrid pace, or will a challenger rise from the pack to unseat the youngster?

Competition in the College of Western Idaho Super Street Stocks has been fierce all season. Melissa Weaver-Arte looks to make her way back to the top of the Pepsi-Cola scoreboard, but will face stiff competition from Gale Carter, Jordan Harris, and the rest of a speedy field.

A whole host of Kendall Ford of Meridian Mini Stocks will crowd the concrete jungle Saturday in pursuit of vital mid-season points. Garry Hussey has found speed in his pickup of late, and he’ll need every ounce of it to erase an early season deficit to point leader Jason Sanders.

The College of Western Idaho High School Tuners continue to entertain was they battle hard every lap of every race. Riley Rogers’ experience has propelled him to victory in each feature so far, but Jordan Harris and the speedy Occhipinti and Woog siblings plan to put a fresh face in the Caleb’s Chop Shop winner’s circle this Saturday.

Also making an appearance Saturday is the Clarity Credit Union Penny Gold Rush for kids.

Saturday, July 16’s full night of racing action is just $10.50 for adults at the gate, $6.50 for kids 7-11. Be sure to check meridianspeedway.com for ticket pricing specials and text ‘meridianspeed’ to 84483 to receive exclusive updates from around the quarter-mile.  Gates open at 4 p.m. with qualifying at 5 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.  We’ll see you this Saturday under the big yellow water tower at your NASCAR Home Track, Meridian Speedway.
