Stephenson Takes Hasson At a Track Feature

Meridian Speedway paid honor to long-time safety crew member Mike Hasson Saturday, September 13, as part of the Zamp Night at the Races featuring the Outhouse Grand Prix presented by Beacon Plumbing. The Pepsi Sprintcars competed for the Hasson Memorial trophy, while the Zamp NASCAR Latemodels, Idaho Vintage Racers, Trammel Construction Stingers, and Firehouse Pub and Grill Thunderdogs traded paint in search of late-season championship points.

In memory of Mike Hasson the Pepsi Sprintcars rumbled to green for a 35 lap feature. Outside polesitter Jamo Stephenson rocketed to the early lead in his YMC Mechanical sprinter while Connor Elliott took second place ahead of a hard charging Kate Jackson. Jackson worked Elliott over to take the runner up spot for herself.

Standings frontrunners AJ Luttmer and Riley Rogers followed Jackson’s Pisca Trucking, Jackson Custom Machining mount to take third and fourth on the Pepsi-Cola scoreboard and the three formed a vicious battle for position. Jackson would hold off Luttmer and Rogers despite twenty laps worth of attacks to finish second. But it all happened behind Stephenson, who raced across the Caleb’s Chop Shop Victory Stripe a full two seconds ahead of Jackson. Rogers took third place ahead of Luttmer and fifth place finisher Jordan Harris.

Andrew Palmer’s reign of Zamp NASCAR Latemodel terror continued Saturday as he powered to the feature win. Coleman Green came home second in his HazTech Drilling, Vantage Moving Solutions car ahead of fellow top five finishers Neil Wassmuth, Brayden Molloy, and Dustin Millard. Kendra Occhipinti piloted her borrowed H&H Auto, Kim’s Kars-sponsored Project Filter Pro-4 to an eighth-place finish after the rest of the Project Filter Pro-4 division was sidelined with mechanical gremlins.

Kalli Weller broke through for her first Trammel Construction Stinger feature win Saturday. Weller winged her Idaho State Towing and Recovery racer around the high side of the track to keep Michael Trammel at bay on her way to the victory. Jacobi Pavlacky brought his machine home third.

Joey Layman blasted to the early lead in the Idaho Vintage Racers’ feature. Layman looked to have the race well in hand when he slid into the backstretch wall. The impact pitched his sprinter up on its side, but Layman somehow landed his machine back on all four tires. Now without brakes Layman’s lead over second place runner Cody South dwindled. Despite a furious last lap charge from South, Layman hung on and claimed the victory.

A dozen Firehouse Pub and Grill Thunderdogs rattled their way to green Saturday night. With twenty thrilling laps in the books the cars were stopped in turn four and the race settled on foot via the Beacon Plumbing Outhouse Grand Prix course. The driver of The Eagle’s Nest was fleetest of foot and walked away with the trophy.

The greatest spectacle in the Concrete Jungle goes green this Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20, as the eleventh annual Les Schwab Tires Pink Lady Classic takes over the asphalt quarter-mile oval. General admission to each night of the Northwest’s biggest winged sprint car event is just $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and military members, $9 for kids 7-11, and free for kids 6 and under. Gates open at 4:45 p.m. each day with qualifying around 5 p.m. and races slated to go green at 6:30 p.m. Get your tickets now at www.meridianspeedway.com before they’re gone! Live, flag-to-flag coverage of both Friday and Saturday night’s action can be streamed at FloRacing.com. We’ll see you under the big, yellow water tower this Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20, for the Les Schwab Tires Pink Lady Classic at your NASCAR Home Track, Meridian Speedway.
