$100K at Stake in NSX360 Debut Season

Over the last decade, winged sprint car pavement racing has exploded across the country. Tracks everywhere are hosting major sprint car events with big payouts and huge fan followings. Some long-running events—like our own Diamond Cup, first held in 1989—have been revived with large purses, while many new races such as the Pink Lady Classic, the 4th of July at Colorado National, the Showdown in Las Vegas, and several new races in the million-dollar series have taken off. These events give sprint car teams a chance to shine under high pressure, blending a grassroots feel with professional-level stakes. For many racers, the dream of winning a single race that can cover most of a season’s expenses is a powerful draw. Winged pavement sprint car racing is on a strong rise, and it shows no signs of slowing down.

But in the Northwest, something is missing: "Not So eXpensive", Winged pavement sprint car racing. Many short tracks once offered regular open-wheel programs, giving drivers a place to learn, compete, and grow. As the big one-off events gain momentum, the call for a Saturday-night proving ground gets louder. Veterans want a place to return. New teams want an entry point that doesn’t require massive startup costs.

Weekly sprint car racing is thriving on dirt tracks up and down the Northwest, where drivers can run “economy” or “sportsman” sprint cars nearly every week. For some, it’s simply the thrill of racing; for others, it’s crucial seat time before major events. This rising interest in affordable sprint car programs is something the pavement world is ready to embrace. Using proven rules from dirt-track sportsman divisions will help shape a fair, cost-controlled rulebook.

Meridian Speedway fans have a long history with sprint cars and super modifieds. They remember the weekly battles that built rivalries and created heroes, and they looked forward to the major shows like the Diamond Cup or the NSRA Championship. Weekly racing is where those stories began—where fans picked favorites, booed the villains, and came back each week to watch drivers improve or seek redemption.

The Speed Tour Sprint Car Series has delivered great racing and will continue to sanction all special events at Meridian Speedway. However, the series cannot expand its schedule to accommodate the weekly need. With today’s economy—high engine costs, rebuilds, and tires—many teams limit their races to save equipment for the major shows.

But Meridian fans want more, and we’re ready to provide it. NSX 360 sprint cars, with affordable engines and 8 race dates, are poised to fill in some of the excitement of weekly open-wheel action. The plan is set, the track is ready, and we can’t wait to see the first green flag drop on a new era of sprint car racing at Meridian Speedway.

Tentative race dates:

May 9- Mother's Day NSX360 Opener
May 25- Naylor Memorial Classic
June 20- Dairy Days
July 4- Stinker Firecracker 50
Aug 8- EOD 18
